family law and public policy
This content area focuses on public policy and how it relates to all aspects of family life. It addresses how families influence public policy and how public policy influences families.
The CFS 4052 Family Law and Public Policy class was an in depth course on family policy. We learned about the benefits of taking a family perspective when determining the effectiveness of a public policy or law. We learned in detail about The Policy Process which includes problem identification, policy formation and adoption, implementation, and evaluation. We also learned about The Four Functions of the Family which are Family Creation, Economic Support, Child Rearing, and Family Caregiving. Throughout the semester, we were required to collect a total of ten articles that discuss a public policy. At the end of the semester we each wrote a Family Impact Analysis paper that focused on a common theme or principle found among all ten policies. I wrote on the principle of Family Responsibility.
